A GUIDE TO CO-PRODUCTIONS
The treaty co-production system has existed for decades and has been used extensively to encourage a pooling of creative, artistic, technical and financial resources among producers of treaty countries. Films produced under the terms of a co-production treaty qualify as national content in the country of each participating co-producer and thus make the production eligible for applicable tax benefits from each co-production territory.
Co-production treaties fall under two categories. Firstly, bilateral treaties where the UK has official co-production treaties with Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Italy and Norway. Secondly, the bilateral or multilateral structure under the European Convention.
